Soft Tissue Surgery:
Porter Pet Hospital performs a large array of soft tissue surgery. Dr. Liz Brucchieri has not only had over 20 years of practice experience but during that time did a rotating internship and surgical fellowship. For years in private practice she routinely performed emergency surgeries such as Gastric Dilation Volvulus (GDV), obstructive foreign body intestinal surgery and removal of bleeding tumors of spleen and liver. She has also has done mass removals, pyometra, cesarian sections (C-Sections), eyelid surgery, anal gland removals, problematic tail amputations, cherry eye "repair", etc. on a regular basis.
Some surgical estimates can be given as a "ball park" figure over the phone, but more involved surgeries should come in for an appointment for an evaluation and proper estimate. Please call us if you have additional questions!

Pets with gastrointestinal issues such as linear foreign bodies (see picture right) often need hospitalization with intravenous fluids and antibiotic therapy after their procedure is done due to the need for a fasting period after the procedure is performed. Large mass removals sometimes benefit from overnight care as well. Many soft tissues surgeries, however, such as tail amputations or cherry eye "repairs" go home the same day. Patients who need aggressive critical care may be referred to an emergency clinic for overnight care if needed. Some patients needing soft tissue surgery diagnosed at an Emergency Care facility will be stabilized by a critical care doctor and then transferred to us during regular office hours for their procedure. Often pricing will be less expensive in our facility due to the lower overhead costs than the critical care facilities. We will work with referring doctors to give your pet the best care.
